Zakāt (Arabic: زكاة , "that which purifies" or "alms"), one of the Five Pillars of Islam, is the giving of a fixed portion of one's wealth to charity, generally to the poor person and needy"a certain property that must be issued by the Muslims and given to those who deserved it (the poor, etc.) conform to the terms"
Zakat is considered to be a religious duty, and is expected to be paid by all practicing Muslims who have the financial means (nisab). In addition to their zakat obligations, Muslims are encouraged to make voluntary contributions (sadaqat).
Type of charity
Zakat is divided into two types namely:
TithesZakat is obligatory issued ahead of the Eid al-Fitr Muslim during Ramadan. Large zakat is equivalent to 3.5 liters (2.5 kilograms) of food staple in the area concerned.
Zakat Maal (property)Includes the results of commerce, agriculture, mining, marine products, livestock, finding treasures, gold and silver. Each type has its own calculations.
Those entitled to receive zakatThere are eight parties are entitled to receive zakat, namely:
1. Fakir - Those who have hardly anything that can not meet the basic needs of life.2. Poor - Those who own property but not enough to meet basic needs for life.3. Amil - Those who collect and distribute zakat.4. Mu'allaf - Those who are new to Islam and need help to adjust to new circumstances5. Slave who wants to liberate itself6. Gharimin - Those who are indebted to the needs of the halal and not able to fulfill it7. Fisabilillah - Those who fight in Allah's way (eg, propaganda, war, etc.)8. Ibnus Sabil - Those who run out of charge on the go.
Wisdom of charity :
1. Reducing the social gap between those with the poor.2. Pillar jama'i charity among those with the Mujahideen and preachers who fought and berda'wah in order to exalt the Word of Allah SWT.3. Zakat Maal (property)
Is a charity that was imposed on the property (maal) owned by individuals or institutions with the conditions and terms established by law (syariah). Maal comes from the Arabic, which literally means 'property'. Property to be released as a charity must meet the following conditions :
1. Wholly-owned, the property is wholly owned by individuals who will give zakat.
2. Grow, the property has potential to grow when cultivated.
3. Nisab, the property has reached the size / resolution in accordance with a certain amount, the property is not required to achieve nishab dizakatkan and organized to berinfaq or charity.

Zakat is the worship that has a double dimension, trasendental and horizontally. Therefore charity has many meanings in the life of mankind, especially Muslims. Zakah has a lot of wisdom, whether in relation to the Creator and social relations among human beings:
1. Helping, assist, nurture and build up the weak destitute orphans with the material used to meet the basic needs of life. Under these conditions they will be able to implement its obligations towards Allah SWT
2. Eradicate the disease of envy, hatred and jealousy of themselves the people around him who were well off, let alone luxury. He himself did not have anything with a helping hand from their (the rich) to those in need will be slightly eradicate heart disease and eliminate social inequality.
3. Can purify yourself (personally) from the dirt of sin, to purify the soul (grow the noble morality of being generous, sensitive to the sense of humanity) and scrape the curmudgeonly nature (miserly) and greedy. 5. Become an important element in realizing a balance in wealth distribution (social distribution), and the balance of individual responsibility in society
